Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?
We provide selective timber harvesting, timber buying, land clearing, forestry mulching, storm damage cleanup, forest management planning, and habitat improvement services. Every project is tailored to the land and the landowner's goals
How do you price your services?
Pricing depends on the type of work and the goals for the property. Forestry mulching and storm damage cleanup are typically priced as service-based work. For land clearing and logging projects, the landowner may be paid based on a flat purchase price or a percentage of the timber performance (which is typically what we prefer because the landowner usually ends up with more profit in the end. For contractors or non-for-profits, we often trade the logs we harvest for the land clearing service. Every project is a case by case, but more often than not our land managers end up bringing thousands of dollars home rather than paying us anything at all. We explain all options clearly so landowners can make informed decisions.
How do I know if my timber is worth selling?
Timber value depends on the size, species, size, forest health, access, and current market conditions. The best way to know if through an on-site evaluation where land and the landowner's goals are both considered. Sometimes the best recommendation is to wait. If you have further questions, you can see our Blog post we made on this subject by clicking here or we can schedule a pressure free consultation.
Do you clear all the trees on a property?
No- unless that is the landowners goal. Most our projects involve selective harvesting or targeted clearing to improve forest health, wildlife habitat, or access. Full clearing is only done when it aligns with the landowners goals.
Do you offer free timber evaluations?
Yes. We're happy to walk the property, evaluate the timber, and discuss options with no obligation. Our goal is to provide honest guidance, even if that means recommending no action at this time.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Fremont, Indiana, and typically work within a five-hour radius, serving most of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. For the right project, we are always open to discussing travel.
How do you minimize impact to the land?
We make thoughtful, selective approach to every project. That includes careful equipment use, attention to soil conditions and water flow, and planning access routes that reduce disturbance. Our goal is to leave the land better than we found it.
Will my property be cleaned up after the job?
Yes- with purpose.
Cleanup looks a little different depending on the goals of the project. In some cases, depending on the landowners goals, we intentionally leave tops or woody material to create habitat and protect soil. Whereas if yards or access areas are impacted, we will level and reseed. We do not put equipment on concrete drives or sidewalks without your prior approval (and this is usually just in instances of urban logging). Logging trails are often replanted with beneficial species to support wildlife and reduce erosion. Many of our clients choose to keep these trails as walking trails for future enjoyment.
Every decision is made with the land and your goals in mind, and we walk through expectations ahead of time so there are no surprises.
Do you work with private landowners only?
Although our primary focus is private landowners, we often work with farms, rural property owners, contractors, and conservation and habitat restoration-focused projects.
How long does a typical project take?
Project timelines vary depending on size, access, weather, and scope. We communicate clearly throughout the process so landowners know what to expect.
What makes Sevits Logging different?
We believe in honest work, clear communication, and respect for both the land and the people who own it. Every decision is made with long-term outcomes in mind-not shortcuts. We believe that everything we do here, is meant to honor God and make the earth better than we found it. We care deeply about wooded areas and prairie habitats because of our deep love of nature and the hope that someday, we can make our daughter proud.
